Kalbarri Fly In 24-26 February

by Bunbury Aero Club
February 15th, 2012

If you haven’t attended a fly-in before, here’s an opportunity for you to discover how enjoyable they are and if you are a seasoned attendee we look forward to welcoming you back to our yearly fly-in to Kalbarri during 24th – 26th February 2012.

Departing Friday 24th or Saturday 25th February (the choice is yours), we will make our way to Kalbarri for the weekend with Members of the Bunbury Aero Club and fellow aviators and return home on Sunday 26th February 2012.

The aim of the fly-in is none other than to enjoy yourself and gain some extra flying hours (or if you’re not a pilot like some, enjoy the view from the passenger seat!)

We encourage students to attend. Whether that be flying with an instructor, or reserving a seat in our chartered aircraft it’s a great opportunity for you to involve yourself in your club and meet other aviation enthusiasts.

Club aircraft are available to hire at a special discounted fly-in rate. Book an aircraft early to avoid disappointment. Seats are available in the Cessna 402 at $325* per person
return.
*price based on full capacity and subject to change.

Accommodation will be arranged for you. We choose to stay at Kalbarri Murchison View Apartments, centrally located in Kalbarri. 2 bedroom apartments are available, and can sleep up to 4 guests. If you’re looking to save on costs, the apartments can be shared between 2 couples. Tariffs can be obtained from Jasmin at the point of registering your attendance for the fly-in.

Kalbarri offers a relaxed environment, perfect for those who like to laze their days away at the local drinking hole, or sit on their balcony enjoying the view. For more adventurous types we highly recommend horse riding; quad bike riding; canoe hire; national park walk; mini golf and Kalbarri seahorse sanctuary.

An organised dinner will be held on one of the nights. We encourage all the guests to attend to meet each other. For all other meals required there is a supermarket or plenty of  cafes to choose from in the main street of town.

At this stage we’re taking registrations and will work on the finer details during the next couple of months. Further information will be provided closer to the date of the fly-in.

Registration is essential. Send an email to Jasmin at admin@bunburyaeroclub.com.au or phone 08 9725 4377. Click on image to view full size.

Outback Air Race 2012

by Bunbury Aero Club
February 5th, 2012

What is the Outback Air Race?

The Outback Air Race is a GPS-based navigation time trial throughout the remote Australian outback. With as many as 60 competitors in 25 aircraft, pilots nominate an elapsed time between two waypoints, receiving points for both time and location accuracy.

With the aim to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, competitors and spectators have raised over $1.2 million since its inception in 1996. All funds from each race go towards outfitting RFDS aircraft with essential medical equipment, vital for treating sick and injured patients and saving lives of those who become critically ill and require urgent medical assistance.

When is the next outback air race?

The next air race will be held from 27th August 2012 to 8th September 2012. The race committee is already actively planning the event. Stay up-to-date with race information by joining the webpage RSS feed or mailing list (see the contacts page on our website).

All information regarding this fantastic event, which is held for a worthy cause, can be found here: http://www.outbackairrace.com.au/.
